"Sparkling Science 2.0" supports high-quality research projects in which scientific institutions cooperate with educational institutions and, if possible, partners from business and society.  

The first call for proposals for the research funding program was issued in September 2021, with a total of 168 projects submitted. Of these, 34 outstanding projects were funded by the BMBWF with the funding budget totaling 11.5 million euros over a maximum period of three years. The second call for proposals opened in June and closed in September 2023. From 116 submissions, 27 innovative citizen science projects can be funded with aournd 9.5. million euros, starting with the 2024/25 school year.
